MediCard Philippines, the healthcare arm of AIA Philippines, has launched MediCard H.E.R.O. (Health Emergency Response On-Demand), a digitally accessible healthcare plan designed to provide affordable emergency medical coverage for Filipinos, particularly those in the growing gig economy.
The new healthcare offering addresses the needs of delivery riders, TNVS drivers, freelancers, informal workers, solo parents, and other underserved sectors who often lack comprehensive health protection. Customers can apply online and receive a virtual healthcare card via email, streamlining access to emergency coverage through a digital-first enrollment process.
For a one-time payment of PHP 6,000 per year, MediCard H.E.R.O. provides coverage for 32 select emergency and non-trauma medical conditions, including accidental chemical poisoning, animal bites, and drowning. Members can access healthcare services through MediCard’s network of more than 600 accredited hospitals nationwide, with coverage of up to PHP 60,000 annually, subject to plan limits.
According to MediCard CEO Julian Mengual, the initiative aims to make emergency healthcare more accessible and affordable as the country’s gig economy continues to expand. The company positions the plan as a practical safety net that helps individuals and families manage unexpected medical emergencies without significant financial burden.
The launch reflects the broader trend of digital transformation in the healthcare sector, where technology-enabled enrollment, virtual health cards, and online service platforms are making healthcare coverage more convenient and accessible for Filipinos.
