PLDT Bets on AI-Driven Personalization and 5G Growth to Boost Wireless Business

PLDT is accelerating its wireless growth strategy through AI-driven personalization, rising 5G adoption, and next-generation connected devices under its mobile arm, Smart Communications.

The company said it is leveraging advanced analytics and hyper-personalization capabilities to deliver tailored mobile plans and services based on individual customer usage patterns. According to Smart co-officer-in-charge Lloyd Manaloto, the strategy allows the telco to provide the right services at the right price and time, improving customer engagement and retention.

Supporting this effort, Smart’s TNT brand recently launched the “For You Po” campaign, which uses AI-powered insights to recommend customized data, call, and text promos through the Smart App. The initiative aims to simplify the user experience by presenting offers that match subscribers’ specific connectivity needs.

PLDT also reported continued growth in 5G adoption, with one in five Smart subscribers now using a 5G-enabled device. As of the end of March 2026, Smart recorded 44.1 million active data users, while 5G traffic surged 68% year-on-year, driven by broader access to affordable 5G smartphones and ongoing network enhancements.

Looking ahead, Smart is expanding into the AI wearables segment through an exclusive partnership with Rokid. The collaboration will make Smart the first Philippine telecommunications provider to offer Rokid AI smart glasses bundled with Smart Postpaid plans, marking its entry into emerging AI-powered consumer technologies.

PLDT executives said the combination of AI-driven customer experiences, growing 5G usage, and innovative connected devices will help strengthen the company’s wireless business amid evolving market conditions and increasing demand for digital services.
