Cybersecurity company Sophos has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI to bring frontier AI models to managed service providers (MSPs) through Sophos Fusion, the company’s AI-native cybersecurity defense platform.
The collaboration aims to help MSPs integrate advanced AI capabilities directly into their existing cybersecurity operations, enabling them to deliver enhanced threat detection, investigation, response, and AI security services without deploying separate standalone AI tools.
Sophos Fusion is built on an open architecture that unifies endpoint, network, email, cloud, identity, and security operations into a single defense system. Through the partnership, OpenAI’s frontier models will be integrated into this ecosystem, allowing intelligence gathered from multiple security layers to be analyzed and acted upon more efficiently.
A key component of the initiative is Sophos AI Defense, which enters early access in August 2026. The solution is designed to help organizations monitor AI and shadow AI usage, enforce governance policies, and protect sensitive data across AI applications and models. Sophos plans to further strengthen these capabilities through its collaboration with OpenAI.
The partnership expands on the companies’ existing relationship under the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, which focuses on developing practical AI-powered cybersecurity solutions for security teams and defenders.
According to John Peterson, Chief Technology Officer at Sophos, the integration of OpenAI models into Sophos Fusion will allow organizations to operationalize frontier AI within a connected defense system while enabling MSPs to build new recurring AI security services for customers.
Sophos noted that its channel ecosystem includes more than 25,000 partners globally, including over 7,000 MSPs, providing a broad route to market for AI-enhanced cybersecurity offerings.
Industry demand for AI security solutions continues to grow as organizations accelerate AI adoption and seek ways to secure AI workloads, data, and usage. Through the new partnership, Sophos and OpenAI aim to help businesses address these challenges while expanding the role of AI in cyber defense operations.
