More than 90% of Philippine respondents in a Synology survey consider AI-ready infrastructure important to workflow efficiency and productivity, but 70% identify data security and privacy as major challenges to adopting artificial intelligence.

The findings highlight the need for businesses to strengthen data management, security and recovery capabilities as they integrate AI into their operations. While AI applications offer opportunities to improve productivity, organizations must also ensure that the information powering these tools remains accessible, reliable and protected.

The results were presented at the Synology Annual Media Event 2026, where the company outlined its approach to data infrastructure, cyber resilience and AI-powered productivity as businesses expand their AI initiatives.

“AI creates value when it helps people do their work better and enables the business to respond more effectively to its customers,” said Antoine Yang, Southeast Asia Head at Synology. “Our focus is to help organizations sustain those gains as adoption grows, with data they can trust and a dependable path to recovery when disruption occurs.”

Data management remains an AI adoption challenge

Beyond security and privacy concerns, the survey identified several data-related obstacles that could affect organizations’ AI initiatives.

Around 47% of respondents cited data quality and availability as challenges, while 40% said their data was scattered across different environments. Nearly 40% also reported limited visibility into how information submitted to third-party AI tools is managed.

These findings underscore the importance of establishing effective data governance and infrastructure before expanding AI deployments.

Infrastructure preferences also reflect organizations’ concerns about data control. Approximately 74% of respondents favor on-premises or hybrid approaches, compared with 9.9% who prioritize public cloud infrastructure.

The survey also revealed varying levels of confidence in ransomware recovery. Although 72.4% of respondents expressed confidence in their ability to recover using protected backups, only 25.4% described themselves as very confident.

“As businesses expand their data infrastructure, they also need confidence that essential services can recover when disruption occurs,” said Claire Huang, Philippines Country Manager at Synology.

Synology expands storage and cyber resilience portfolio

In response to these requirements, Synology is focusing on three areas: scalable data infrastructure, stronger cyber resilience and AI-powered productivity with greater control over business data.

Its 2026 portfolio includes the PAS7700, an active-active NVMe all-flash storage solution designed for mission-critical workloads, alongside new FS and RS series products. Synology Tiering and data reduction capabilities in DSM 7.4 are also designed to help organizations manage growing storage requirements more efficiently.

For data protection, ActiveProtect appliances offer centralized backup management, immutable data protection and automated isolation capabilities.

ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 expands support for Nutanix AHV and Proxmox VE, as well as Amazon EC2, Azure VM and Google Workspace. The update also introduces cross-platform recovery and expanded cloud recovery capabilities.

Meanwhile, the DP5200 adds a compact 1U appliance to the ActiveProtect lineup, targeting growing businesses and remote offices that need backup and recovery capabilities in space-constrained environments.

AI-powered tools target everyday productivity

Synology is also incorporating AI into its workplace collaboration offerings through Synology Office Suite, ChatPlus and Meet. For surveillance applications, the DVA7400 supports AI-powered video search and analytics on premises.

The company also previewed upcoming scale-out storage and hybrid surveillance solutions for enterprise environments.

“When businesses can trust how their data is managed and protected, they are better positioned to turn AI initiatives into lasting business results,” Huang said.

The survey findings point to a broader consideration for Philippine organizations pursuing AI adoption: productivity gains must be supported by reliable data infrastructure, appropriate security controls and tested recovery capabilities. As AI becomes more integrated into business workflows, managing and protecting enterprise data will remain central to realizing its potential.
