Canon’s new EOS R8 Mark II combines a 24.2MP full-frame sensor, 5-axis stabilization, 40fps shooting, and advanced video tools in a compact body.
Canon Philippines has introduced the EOS R8 Mark II, a compact and lightweight full-frame mirrorless camera designed for photographers and content creators seeking advanced imaging capabilities in a portable body.
The camera features a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processor, along with 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS). When paired with compatible RF lenses with optical IS, Canon’s Coordinated Control IS can provide stabilization equivalent to up to 7.5 stops at the center and 7.0 stops at the edges, based on Canon’s cited test conditions.
For capturing fast-moving subjects, the EOS R8 Mark II uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and supports Pre-Continuous Shooting with electronic shutter speeds of up to 40 frames per second. Its Register People Priority mode can also prioritize a pre-registered person for autofocus tracking in crowded environments.
The camera introduces new creative tools, including NegativeFilmtone and PositiveFilmtone Color Filters, additional color settings for Handheld Night Scene mode, and a Creative AUTO mode designed to provide creative assistance through a simplified interface.
For video creators, the EOS R8 Mark II supports 6K-oversampled 4K video at up to 60p and Full HD recording at up to 180p. It also supports Canon Log 3, Custom Picture functions with Custom LUTs, and four wired and wireless livestreaming options, including multi-angle livestreaming through the Live Switcher Mobile app.
The camera also supports selected VR lenses and Canon’s new VR Clear Mode, while the Dual Pixel 3D Converter software can convert still images into 3D models using distance information from the camera’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system.
Measuring approximately 131.4 × 90.0 × 79.7mm and weighing about 546 grams including the battery and card, the EOS R8 Mark II is positioned as Canon’s smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless camera with In-Body IS.
Canon is also introducing the Extension Grip EG-E2, Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR, and Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2) alongside the camera.
