Gen Z is the most active generation of artificial intelligence (AI) users in Asia Pacific (APAC), with half using AI daily or almost every day, according to Kaspersky’s latest research.
The study found that 50% of Gen Z respondents in APAC use AI every day or nearly every day, with 57% using it to search for information, 54% for studying and 50% for generating ideas.
Beyond productivity, AI is also becoming more personal for younger users. Nearly one-third (32%) of Gen Z respondents said they use AI as a friend, while 34% use AI to discuss personal issues they would rather not share with other people.
However, high AI usage does not necessarily translate into safe practices. Kaspersky found that only 45% of Gen Z respondents consistently take protective measures when using AI services, while 51% do so only occasionally.
AI use raises data privacy concerns
The growing use of conversational AI highlights the importance of protecting personal and confidential information. Users may enter sensitive details such as passwords, financial information, identity documents or private messages into AI platforms without fully considering how the information could be processed or stored.
Kaspersky recommends that users verify important AI-generated information through reliable sources and avoid sharing confidential data with AI services, particularly when dealing with financial, legal, medical or other sensitive matters.
Vladislav Tushkanov, Group Manager at Kaspersky AI Technology Research Centre, said Gen Z’s confidence and curiosity about AI should be matched with critical thinking and responsible data-sharing habits.
The findings are based on a March 2026 survey of 7,200 respondents across 18 countries. Kaspersky said the results highlight the need for cybersecurity skills to develop alongside AI adoption as the technology becomes increasingly integrated into education, communication and everyday life.
