Maya is simplifying account upgrades in the Philippines through an ID-less verification process that uses National ID records, video selfies, AI, and automation to streamline identity checks.
Eligible users can now upgrade their Maya accounts without photographing or uploading a physical ID. Instead, they can provide their name and birthday, or their National ID number, which Maya verifies against records through National ID eVerify, the Philippine Statistics Authority’s identity-verification service.
The process also includes a video selfie to help confirm the user’s identity. Maya then asks only for additional information that cannot already be verified through the available records.
The technology-driven approach is designed to reduce manual data entry and make digital onboarding more seamless while retaining required identity verification, screening, and regulatory checks.
According to Maya, AI and automation handle routine verification tasks, while cases requiring closer examination can be routed for human review.
If a user cannot be verified through National ID eVerify, Maya allows them to continue with the regular ID-upload process without restarting the account upgrade.
The new process highlights how digital identity infrastructure, AI, and automated verification are being used to simplify financial services while maintaining identity and compliance safeguards.
