Maya is highlighting digital payroll, Open Finance, artificial intelligence, and interoperable payment infrastructure as technologies that could reshape how Filipino employees manage their salaries and financial data.

Speaking at the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) 2026 Future of Work Forum, Kristoffer Rada, Head of Corporate Affairs at Maya, said digital payroll can serve as an entry point to broader financial services, connecting salary disbursement with savings, payments, and responsible access to credit.

Modernizing digital payroll

Through Maya Business, the company is working with BPO companies and the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to explore ways to modernize payroll, disbursement, and reimbursement processes for nearly 1.9 million digital Filipino workers.

Maya Business allows employers to digitally distribute salaries and other employee payouts at scale. Employees can then receive and manage their money through the Maya ecosystem, including everyday payments and savings.

The platform also uses data and AI to support financial services such as credit assessment, potentially helping institutions better understand customers with limited traditional credit histories.

Maya is also supporting efforts by the Digital Bank Association of the Philippines (DiBa PH) to advance payroll portability, which would give employees greater choice over where their salaries are deposited through interoperable payment infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Open Finance could allow workers, with their consent, to securely share financial information with service providers and access financial products suited to their needs.

AI and responsible adoption

Rada also emphasized the need for businesses to adopt AI responsibly as the technology changes workplace processes.

Maya currently uses AI across areas including digital onboarding, credit assessment, fraud detection, personalization, customer service, and operations. The company began developing a formal AI governance framework in 2024, followed by a board-approved policy covering areas such as risk classification, testing, monitoring, security, and human accountability.

The company said broader AI adoption will require not only technology but also workforce capabilities, digital infrastructure, and governance frameworks that establish accountability.

For Maya, the evolving future of work involves connecting digital technologies with greater employee choice, more accessible financial services, and responsible AI adoption.
