PLDT Enterprise, together with PLDT and Smart, deployed Starlink satellite connectivity and emergency communications support to help restore critical links in communities affected by a powerful earthquake in Mindanao.

PLDT and Smart field and operations teams assessed network facilities in General Santos City and municipalities in South Cotabato. Most network facilities remained operational, with disruptions largely attributed to commercial power outages affecting some sites.

Starlink supports emergency response

PLDT Enterprise rolled out Starlink connectivity in areas where communications infrastructure was affected, including Malungon Sarangani Provincial Hospital, Alabel Sarangani Provincial Hospital, command centers and rescue operation centers.

The satellite-based solution provided an alternative connectivity option for emergency responders and local communities, particularly where conventional communications infrastructure faced disruptions.

“Restoring connectivity at the front line of a disaster can be a powerful force multiplier,” said Blums Pineda, Senior Vice President and Head of Enterprise Business Group at PLDT Enterprise.

The deployment highlights the role of satellite broadband and rapidly deployable communications technologies in disaster response, providing connectivity for coordination, emergency operations and community communications when terrestrial infrastructure is disrupted.

PLDT Enterprise said it will continue working with local government units and other partners to support recovery and rebuilding efforts in affected Mindanao communities.
