Maya assists DSWD UPLIFT beneficiaries during on-ground activities in Navotas City and Quezon City, supporting their transition to digital payouts and expanding access to formal financial services.
Maya is supporting the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) UPLIFT Assistance program by helping beneficiaries transition to digital payouts while providing access to broader formal financial services.
Maya teams recently assisted beneficiaries in Navotas City and Quezon City with account setup and verification ahead of succeeding digital payouts.
Under UPLIFT, DSWD is providing financial assistance to around 2.5 million poor, near-poor and low-income Filipino households, while expanding digital channels to make aid delivery more convenient and accessible.
Digital payouts open access to financial services
Maya said beneficiaries who choose the platform as their digital payout channel can use their accounts for everyday payments and, subject to requirements, access services such as savings and credit through Maya Bank.
“For us, the opportunity goes beyond digitizing the payout,” said Angelo Madrid, President of Maya Bank. “When people have access to a digital financial account, they can also start using other services that can help them save, make payments and manage their money better.”
The initiative supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ financial inclusion agenda, which promotes wider use of digital financial services and encourages digital solutions for government cash-transfer and social safety-net programs.
The program highlights how digital finance can extend beyond electronic disbursement, potentially giving beneficiaries a pathway into the formal financial system and helping them manage their finances through digital tools.
