More than 240 TELUS Digital Philippines volunteers joined a community initiative at Mandurriao National High School in Iloilo, combining school refurbishment with digital literacy training for students.
Held under the company’s TELUS Days of Giving initiative and in support of the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program, the activity brought together team members from TELUS Digital’s Strata and Pavia sites.
Volunteers repainted 15 classrooms, seven hallways and five staircases across three school buildings, while restoring more than 180 student chairs. The school serves more than 3,200 students and 160 teachers.
The initiative also included a TELUS Wise® digital literacy session for 30 high school students. The session focused on practical ways to stay safe online and use social media more responsibly, highlighting the growing importance of digital skills alongside traditional education.
“Even though we’re here for one day, the spaces we help improve, and the opportunities they create for students, help serve the community for much longer,” said Jonabee Catura, Senior Director and Iloilo Site Lead, TELUS Digital Philippines.
The activity marked the fifth anniversary of TELUS Digital’s Iloilo sites. Since 2021, 780 TELUS Digital volunteers in Iloilo have contributed more than 3,780 volunteer hours to Brigada Eskwela activities.
The company also supports education, healthcare and community programs in Iloilo through the TELUS Digital Philippines Community Board, its grant-giving foundation.
The combined focus on improved learning environments and digital literacy reflects the increasing role of technology skills in helping students navigate online platforms safely and responsibly.
