Globe Telecom showcased its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy on the global stage as President and CEO Carl Cruz delivered a keynote during the opening plenary of Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2026, joining global telecommunications leaders to discuss how AI is transforming connectivity and the telecom industry.

Speaking alongside executives from Vodafone Group, China Mobile, China Telecom, Huawei, and the GSMA, Cruz said AI’s greatest value lies in creating meaningful outcomes for customers, employees, businesses, and communities—not simply adopting new technologies.

According to Cruz, the Philippines is well positioned to benefit from AI, citing the country’s nearly 97.5 million internet users, 142 million mobile connections, and more than 90 million social media users as indicators of strong digital adoption.

To accelerate its AI transformation, Globe established a dedicated AI Group in 2024 and appointed its first Chief AI Officer, Anton Bonifacio, who now also serves as Chief Intelligence and Trust Officer. The organization integrates AI, data, cybersecurity, and data privacy under a unified leadership model to ensure responsible AI deployment.

Globe has also expanded AI adoption across the company by providing employees with access to AI tools, training, and innovation programs. These initiatives have generated more than 260 AI use cases spanning customer service, operations, and internal business processes.

The telecom provider is now focusing its AI investments on four strategic priorities: hyper-personalization, customer experience, intelligent networks, and the development of new AI-powered products and services. Globe said these initiatives aim to enhance customer engagement, improve operational efficiency, optimize network performance, and drive future business growth.

Cruz emphasized that AI should serve as an enabler of better customer experiences and smarter business decisions, adding that Globe remains committed to scaling AI responsibly while maintaining trust, security, and innovation.
