Grab Philippines has upgraded its GrabCar Group Ride feature with automatic fare splitting, allowing passengers to share ride costs more conveniently and save up to 50% per rider compared with booking a solo ride.

The feature allows a host and up to two friends to share one GrabCar booking, with up to three drop-off points along the route. The Grab app displays each passenger’s share upfront, eliminating the need to calculate individual contributions after the trip.

Passengers can also save regular ride companions, along with frequently used pickup and drop-off locations, to make repeat bookings faster. The feature is designed for commuters traveling in the same direction, including colleagues heading home after work and friends sharing a ride after an evening out.

Grab promotes Group Ride through nostalgic campaign

To introduce the upgrade, Grab released an online video inspired by the catchy shampoo jingles popular in the Philippines during the 2000s. The campaign presents the feature as “GrabCar 3-in-1,” highlighting how three passengers can share a single booking for a more affordable trip.

The concept draws a parallel with the familiar three-in-one shampoo sachet, promoting the idea that sharing a ride with friends can offer savings while making the journey home more enjoyable.

“Filipino commuters are resourceful. They’re always finding smarter ways to make every trip with friends or colleagues more efficient and more affordable,” said Bea Bravo, country marketing head of Grab Philippines.

Bravo added that the feature builds on the Filipino practice of hati-hati, or sharing expenses, to make getting around together easier and more accessible.

How to book a GrabCar Group Ride

  1. Open the Grab app, tap GrabCar, and select Group Ride.
  2. Enter your pickup point and drop-off location.
  3. Share the invitation link with up to two friends.
  4. Let your friends add their own drop-off points.
  5. Confirm the booking. The fare is split automatically, with each rider potentially saving up to 50%.

GrabCar Group Ride is now available in all cities nationwide where GrabCar operates.
