Shell Energy Philippines (SEPH) has reached a major development milestone for its planned 30MW/60MWh Hermosa Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bataan, signing key agreements covering engineering, construction, operations, and long-term maintenance of the facility.
The project is designed to strengthen grid reliability and flexibility as the Philippines continues to modernize its energy infrastructure and integrate more diverse power sources. Battery energy storage systems are increasingly being deployed worldwide to store electricity during periods of surplus supply and release it when demand rises, helping stabilize power networks.
Under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) agreement, Power Dimension, Inc. will oversee the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the facility, which will utilize Sungrow’s Power Titan 3.0 battery energy storage technology. The project will also include the development of associated electrical and balance-of-plant infrastructure.
SEPH has likewise signed Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contracts with Sungrow Power Technology Solutions Philippines Inc., ensuring ongoing technical support, maintenance, and operational services once the facility becomes operational.
According to Bernd Krukenberg, President and CEO of Shell Energy Philippines, the agreements establish the foundation needed to advance the project safely and efficiently into its next phase. He noted that battery storage technologies play an increasingly important role in improving power system flexibility and reliability.
Located in Hermosa, Bataan, the facility will have a storage capacity of 60MWh, enabling it to store electricity when supply is available and discharge power when needed to support grid operations.
The Hermosa BESS project is part of Shell Energy Philippines’ expanding energy infrastructure portfolio and reflects the growing adoption of energy storage technologies in the country. Once completed, the facility will be owned and operated by SEPH and is expected to contribute to a more resilient and flexible power system capable of supporting the Philippines’ evolving energy requirements.
