Spotify is spotlighting Filipino P-Pop group SB19 in The Come Up, a global series highlighting the defining moments behind an artist’s rise, following the group’s debut at Lollapalooza as the first P-Pop act to perform at the festival.
The group’s growth on the streaming platform reflects how playlisting, algorithm-driven music discovery, and fan engagement can help artists build audiences beyond a single viral hit.
SB19 joined RADAR Philippines in March 2020 with 141,489 monthly listeners on Spotify. Six years later, the group has surpassed 1.4 million global monthly listeners, with its audience sustained across multiple releases, collaborations, and Spotify playlists.
The group’s streaming growth accelerated with tracks such as “MAPA” and “GENTO.” “MAPA” appeared on Tatak Pinoy, while “GENTO” gained exposure through Viral Hits Philippines, contributing to a near quadrupling of SB19’s monthly listeners within three months.
Spotify also positioned SB19 at the forefront of P-Pop discovery when it launched P-Pop On The Rise, naming the group among its first cover artists. Their international reach expanded through collaborations, including a track with JVKE featuring a Tagalog verse and “Toyfriend” with Japan’s BE, which landed on the cover of Hot Hits Japan.
Beyond playlists, Spotify’s recommendation tools—including Discover Weekly, Release Radar, and DJ—have helped introduce SB19’s music to listeners who may not have actively searched for the group.
Spotify Philippines Lead Editor Chesca Tan said SB19’s continued growth demonstrates how playlists and other platform experiences can connect artists with new audiences while helping existing fans remain engaged.
For SB19, the journey has also been driven by A’TIN, their global fanbase. Their Spotify activities have included the Atin Atin Lang podcast and a 20,000-strong Spotify Listening Party, described as the first of its kind for a Filipino artist on the platform.
SB19’s story highlights how streaming technology, personalized recommendations, playlist ecosystems, and digital fan communities are reshaping how Filipino artists reach global audiences.
