TCL’s latest SQD Mini LED technology is compared with QD Mini LED, highlighting differences in contrast and image detail as the company advances its display technology.
TCL is advancing its premium TV lineup with Super-QD Mini LED (SQD-Mini LED), a display technology that combines advanced light control, color reproduction and panel technologies to improve picture quality across different viewing environments.
The technology integrates three key components: Precise Dimming, Super QLED and the Ultra Color Filter. Together, they are designed to deliver brighter highlights, deeper contrast, reduced haloing, wider color reproduction and more consistent image quality.
Precise Dimming combines upgraded micro-lens structures, Micro-OD architecture and intelligent backlight algorithms to provide more accurate control of the display’s lighting. Super QLED expands the color gamut and improves color purity, while the Ultra Color Filter uses particles smaller than 5 nanometers to help reduce color interference and maintain distinct colors.
TCL said SQD-Mini LED is designed for everyday viewing conditions, including brightly lit rooms, sports streaming and gaming, where brightness, contrast, color consistency and motion clarity can affect the viewing experience.
The company recently demonstrated the technology at a media roundtable in the Philippines, using side-by-side displays to show differences in brightness, contrast and color reproduction among Mini LED implementations.
According to TCL, independent testing by Omdia gave SQD-Mini LED a 10/10 score across brightness, color consistency, color gamut and 4K motion clarity.
The TCL X11L, described by the company as the world’s first SQD-Mini LED flagship TV, also received a Gold Award for Innovative Display Technology at the Global Top Brands Awards during CES 2026.
With SQD-Mini LED, TCL is positioning its latest display technology as an alternative for consumers seeking high brightness, deep contrast and vibrant colors without requiring a dedicated, light-controlled viewing environment.
