TP in the Philippines has donated 15 computer units to support the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 10’s Smart Village Initiative (SVI), helping expand digital literacy and technology access in underserved communities across Northern Mindanao.
The donation reinforces TP’s commitment to developing digital and AI-related skills among Filipinos, providing communities with the tools and training needed to unlock employment, entrepreneurship, and economic opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven world.
According to James Garcia, Vice President for IT at TP in the Philippines, the initiative aligns with the company’s goal of promoting access to digital resources, computer literacy, and introductory artificial intelligence knowledge—skills that are becoming increasingly important in the future workforce.
The computer units were turned over through TP’s Cagayan de Oro site and will benefit learners in three Smart Villages in Region 10: Camp Bilal in Lanao del Norte, Dalingap in Misamis Occidental, and Capihan in Bukidnon. These communities serve as pilot areas for digital transformation and inclusive rural development.
The DICT’s Smart Village Initiative is based on the International Telecommunication Union’s Smart Village framework, which seeks to bridge the digital divide through improved internet access, digital literacy programs, and access to e-government services. In Northern Mindanao, the program includes training on office productivity software, basic AI tools, and social media marketing to help participants develop practical, job-ready skills.
The partnership highlights the growing role of public-private collaboration in advancing digital inclusion and ensuring that rural communities can participate in the country’s expanding digital economy.
By providing access to computers and foundational ICT education, TP and DICT aim to create more opportunities for learning, livelihood, and digital empowerment in underserved areas of the Philippines.
