Fastly, a global edge cloud platform provider, has joined DIMPACT, a coalition focused on developing science-based solutions to measure and reduce the environmental impact of digital media delivery.
As the first edge cloud platform provider to participate in DIMPACT, Fastly will contribute real-world edge network data and infrastructure expertise to help media, streaming, and publishing companies better understand and optimize their digital carbon footprints.
The collaboration aims to improve emissions measurement across the digital content delivery chain, including data movement from content origins to end-user devices. By providing more accurate data and insights, DIMPACT members can develop strategies to reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with digital services.
Fastly said the partnership is increasingly important as digital content consumption continues to grow, including the rise of AI-generated traffic that is reshaping internet usage patterns. The company aims to support a faster, more secure, and more sustainable internet ecosystem through industry collaboration.
“Accurately calculating digital emissions requires a deep understanding of every hop data takes from the origin to the end-user device,” said Jason Bell, Director at SLR Consulting and Executive Sponsor of DIMPACT.
Fastly’s participation will help advance industry efforts toward transparent emissions reporting and sustainable digital infrastructure by combining edge network expertise with DIMPACT’s environmental measurement framework.
