PLDT Home is enhancing its disaster preparedness strategy in the Philippines by strengthening network resilience, expanding support services, and using satellite broadband technology to help families stay connected during severe weather events.
With the Philippines experiencing an average of 20 tropical cyclones entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) every year, PLDT Home said reliable connectivity has become a critical lifeline during emergencies, allowing families to communicate, access information, and seek assistance.
The company’s year-round readiness program focuses on improving network infrastructure and redundancy, deploying satellite broadband when needed to support connectivity restoration, identifying high-risk locations, and preparing PLDT At Your Service support booths for rapid deployment.
PLDT Home uses a data-driven approach by identifying three key areas for response: calamity-affected areas recovering from previous storms, priority connectivity areas requiring focused assistance, and at-risk areas with repeated severe weather impacts based on historical data.
“Connectivity is not a convenience. It is the thread that holds families together,” said Menardo “Butch” Jimenez, Jr., PLDT’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer, highlighting the importance of keeping communication channels available during disasters.
The company’s disaster response strategy includes backup network systems, alternative connectivity solutions, SMS updates for affected customers, and field support operations. Through PLDT At Your Service booths, communities can access free WiFi, free calls, and charging stations following calamities.
During recovery efforts, PLDT Home teams may also provide customer service assistance, connectivity support, free installation, speedboost offers, and quick installation services where available.
