The Philippines is moving toward digital legal services with the launch of NotarioPH by Quanby Legal, a platform that enables remote electronic notarization of eligible documents through live audiovisual sessions and digital document processing.

Developed through a collaboration between Gorriceta Africa Cauton & Saavedra and Quanby Solutions Inc., the platform aims to make notarial services more accessible to individuals and businesses while complying with the Supreme Court of the Philippines’ rules on electronic notarization under A.M. No. 24-10-14-SC.

The service introduces an alternative to traditional notarization, which typically involves printed documents, physical appearances before a notary public, and in-person transactions. Through NotarioPH, users can connect remotely with duly commissioned Electronic Notaries Public, undergo identity verification, participate in live audiovisual sessions, and electronically sign eligible documents.

Remote notarization demonstrated across three island groups

To mark the nationwide launch, NotarioPH staged a live demonstration connecting participants from Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao in a single electronic notarial proceeding.

Broadcast from The Summit in Ortigas Center, Pasig City, the demonstration featured participants joining remotely from Makati City, Boracay, and Davao City. The session showcased how electronic notarization can facilitate transactions across geographical boundaries.

Actress, entrepreneur, and television personality Jasmine Curtis-Smith represented Luzon, while a manager of White House Beach Resort Boracay represented the Visayas. Mindanao was represented by the store supervisor of Karat World SM Davao.

The electronic notarial proceedings were conducted by Atty. Pauline de la Peña, a commissioned Electronic Notary Public, using QLegal through the NotarioPH platform.

The event was livestreamed on NotarioPH’s official Facebook and YouTube channels, allowing viewers to observe the remote notarization process.

Security and regulatory compliance at the core

According to the company, NotarioPH incorporates identity verification, live audiovisual communication, electronic document processing, and digital audit trails to help maintain the integrity of notarial transactions.

The platform operates within the Supreme Court’s regulatory framework for electronic notarization, where identity, consent, document integrity, and public trust remain essential requirements.

Atty. Mark S. Gorriceta, chairman and co-founder of NotarioPH by QLegal and chairman and managing partner of Gorriceta Africa Cauton & Saavedra, said the initiative demonstrates how technology can modernize legal services while preserving the safeguards required by law.

He emphasized that electronic notarization goes beyond putting an existing process online, offering an opportunity to make legal services more accessible within an increasingly digital economy.

Maria Crisma Maxwell, CEO and co-founder of NotarioPH by QLegal, said the platform was developed to help Filipinos access notarial services remotely, regardless of their location.

Potential benefits for businesses and professionals

Electronic notarization could help organizations streamline eligible legal and administrative transactions, particularly those involving multiple offices or parties in different locations.

Corporate authorizations, affidavits, and other eligible legal instruments are among the documents for which notarization may be required. Traditional processes can involve travel, printing, scheduling, and manual coordination, creating logistical challenges for businesses and individuals.

By enabling remote electronic transactions, NotarioPH offers an alternative that may reduce these burdens and support more integrated digital document workflows.

The platform may also benefit industries such as hospitality, retail, and professional services, where parties may need to coordinate legal documentation across different locations.

However, electronic notarization applies only to eligible documents and transactions that meet the applicable legal requirements.

Philippine technology supporting digital legal services

NotarioPH combines the legal expertise of Gorriceta Africa Cauton & Saavedra in technology law, corporate transactions, and regulatory matters with the technology infrastructure provided by Quanby Solutions Inc.

The companies aim to support a nationwide network of commissioned Electronic Notaries Public and expand access to compliant electronic notarization services.

The launch highlights how locally developed digital platforms can help modernize established professional services while operating within existing legal and regulatory frameworks.

For Filipinos and businesses, the introduction of electronic notarization offers another option for managing legal documentation in a more connected environment.
