PLDT has secured the support of Tagbanua Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICC) in Palawan for a major submarine cable initiative aimed at improving network resiliency and internet connectivity across the province.

In separate signing ceremonies, the Tagbanua Central ICC in Napsan, Puerto Princesa, and the Tagbanua Calamian ICC in Busuanga formalized agreements with PLDT and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples to support the implementation of the Palawan Resiliency Submarine Cable Project. Another agreement with the Tagbanua Tandulanen ICC in Sibaltan, El Nido is expected in June.

The project, led by PLDT’s Network team, is designed to strengthen the reliability, resiliency, and capacity of PLDT’s telecommunications infrastructure in Palawan through additional submarine cable routes. The initiative aims to reduce service disruptions and ensure stronger connectivity for communities across the island province.

Arvin L. Siena said the collaboration highlights PLDT’s commitment to building resilient digital infrastructure while respecting the customs, rights, and environmental stewardship of Indigenous communities.

Meanwhile, Menardo G. Jimenez emphasized the importance of network redundancy in maintaining reliable communications, particularly during emergencies and critical situations.

PLDT said the project forms part of its broader digital inclusion and infrastructure expansion efforts nationwide. The company added that improving connectivity in geographically isolated areas like Palawan supports the Philippine government’s digitalization goals and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
