Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is expanding its mobile network infrastructure in La Trinidad, Benguet, to improve connectivity for residents, businesses, students and the local government.
The telco recently signed an agreement with the La Trinidad local government to build additional network infrastructure in strategic areas across the municipality. Smart has also deployed a portable mobile cellular site in the central business district to increase network capacity and improve mobile services.
The expansion is particularly significant for La Trinidad, a major commercial and agricultural hub in the Cordillera Administrative Region. The municipality serves as a key trading center for Benguet’s highland vegetables, with farm products distributed to markets across the Philippines.
Improved connectivity is expected to help micro, small and medium-sized businesses use digital tools for payments, money transfers, communications, marketing and customer transactions. Students and residents can also benefit from more reliable access to online learning resources and digital services.
Smart FVP for Network Build and Implementation Debbie M. Hu said the additional sites will help improve coverage and provide more reliable connectivity in La Trinidad.
The network upgrade also supports the municipality’s digitalization efforts and comes as Smart continues to invest in infrastructure nationwide. The company has been recognized by Ookla for delivering the Best Mobile Video Experience in the Philippines, highlighting network performance for demanding applications such as video streaming.
For La Trinidad, stronger mobile infrastructure can provide the connectivity needed to support digital commerce, education, government services and the region’s growing digital economy.
