Accenture is calling on the Philippines to accelerate investments in artificial intelligence (AI) talent, digital infrastructure, and responsible AI governance as the country positions itself to capitalize on the growing AI-driven economy.

During a media briefing, Ambe C. Tierro, Country Managing Director and Technology Lead of Accenture in the Philippines, said AI has evolved from an emerging technology into a key economic growth engine. Citing International Monetary Fund estimates, Accenture noted that AI could unlock US$79 billion in productive capacity for the Philippines by 2030—equivalent to about one-fifth of the country’s 2022 GDP.

The company also highlighted the rapid expansion of AI-related employment, with job postings requiring AI skills increasing from 8,000 in 2021 to 56,000 in 2025, while generative AI job vacancies grew 115-fold between 2021 and 2024.

Accenture said the Philippines has several competitive advantages, including its young and digitally savvy workforce, a globally competitive IT-BPM industry, a strong MSME sector, and government initiatives such as the National AI Strategy Roadmap.

To maximize AI’s economic potential, the company outlined three priorities: Readiness, Innovation, and Responsibility. These include expanding AI education and workforce upskilling, strengthening digital infrastructure, developing advanced capabilities in data engineering, machine learning, cybersecurity, and digital risk management, and promoting stronger collaboration between academia and industry.

Accenture also underscored the importance of responsible AI deployment through privacy, transparency, security, and human oversight. It pointed to initiatives such as the Department of Education’s Project AGAP.AI, the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s Philippines AI+ Infrastructure Masterplan 2033, and the government’s upcoming AI Governance Framework as critical building blocks for the country’s AI ecosystem.

Globally, Accenture said it invests US$1 billion annually in employee learning and development, has trained 550,000 employees in generative AI, certified 300,000 professionals in agentic AI, and expanded its AI and Data practice to more than 85,000 specialists worldwide.

According to Tierro, the country’s long-term competitiveness will depend on how quickly it can develop an AI-ready workforce capable of responsibly delivering higher-value digital services while ensuring inclusive growth.
