Innovative student-built technologies designed to solve real-world community challenges took center stage at the 18th Digital Expo of Foundation University, highlighting the growing role of academic institutions in shaping practical, tech-driven solutions.

Held at Robinsons Dumaguete, the three-day event showcased prototype systems and applications developed by students from the university’s tech-focused programs, with direct applications in agriculture, urban mobility, and artificial intelligence.

Another standout innovation from Foundation University’s College of Computer Science is an AI-powered agricultural platform that allows farmers to photograph and self-report cacao pod conditions, showcasing how student-developed technology can drive smarter, data-driven agriculture solutions.

Students from Foundation University’s College of Computer Science demonstrate a prototype showcasing their innovative, tech-driven solutions developed to address real-world challenges through applied learning and emerging technologies.

Among the standout innovations was a mobile application that monitors water and soil quality for hydroponic plant systems, helping users maintain optimal growing conditions through data-driven insights. Another featured project, TapPark, streamlines urban mobility by allowing users to reserve parking spaces in advance, reducing congestion and improving convenience in city environments.

A third notable innovation was an AI-assisted prototype system capable of instantly identifying cacao bean quality, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can support agricultural efficiency and product standardization.

These projects were developed by students from the College of Computer Science and further refined with faculty guidance, reflecting the university’s emphasis on applied learning and industry-relevant skills.

According to Foundation University President Victor Vicente “Dean” Sinco, the expo serves as the annual culmination of the institution’s technology-driven curriculum, designed to encourage students to create solutions that address societal needs.

Founded in 1949, Foundation University has been a pioneer in integrating technology into education, including early adoption of iPad-based learning systems. Today, it continues to position itself as an innovation hub for digital learning and applied research in the Philippines.

The Digital Expo underscores the increasing importance of AI, mobile development, and smart systems in education, as universities play a more active role in preparing students for technology-driven industries.
