A new global study from AXA, conducted in partnership with market research firm IPSOS, reveals that more Filipinos are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) tools for mental health support as emotional stress, financial pressures, and digital fatigue continue to impact well-being.
According to the 2026 AXA Mind Health Report, 29% of Filipinos regularly use AI-powered tools to help manage their mental health—significantly higher than the global average of 21%. The trend is particularly strong among individuals aged 18 to 34 and those who already report having mental health concerns.
The report highlights a growing mental health challenge in the Philippines. While there has been a slight improvement in the number of people classified as struggling, around 31% of Filipinos remain in a languishing state, reflecting ongoing emotional and psychological difficulties.
Among younger Filipinos, digital life is playing a major role. The study found that 72% of Filipino youth experience feelings of loneliness or sadness, while they spend an average of 7.5 hours daily on screens. Nearly all respondents in this age group said excessive screen time negatively affects their daily lives, contributing to stress, anxiety, disrupted sleep, and reduced productivity.
Despite the growing popularity of AI as a support tool, the report also points to potential risks. Around 33% of users reported feeling uneasy after receiving AI-generated guidance, while 25% said recommendations from AI tools had led them toward harmful behavior.
The findings suggest that AI is becoming an increasingly important part of mental health management, but experts emphasize the need for responsible use and access to professional support. Cost remains the biggest barrier to mental health services in the Philippines, unlike global trends where lack of awareness is a larger issue.
To help address this gap, AXA Philippines continues to expand access to mental wellness resources, including digital self-assessment tools and health plans that cover mental health consultations and selected mental health conditions.
The report underscores the growing intersection of technology and mental health, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI-powered support tools as more Filipinos seek accessible ways to manage their well-being.
