As freelancing and self-employment continue to grow in the Philippines, BPI AIA is expanding access to medical and life protection solutions tailored for independent workers who often lack employer-sponsored healthcare benefits.

The insurer’s Medical Solutions offerings, available through BPI AIA Future Ready and BPI AIA Aspire, combine hospitalization and healthcare benefits with life insurance coverage. The plans are designed to help freelancers, gig workers, online entrepreneurs, ride-hailing drivers, and other self-employed professionals manage medical risks while pursuing long-term financial goals.

BPI AIA said the initiative addresses a growing protection gap among independent workers who may rely on HMOs and PhilHealth but remain vulnerable to significant out-of-pocket expenses resulting from hospitalization, critical illness, surgery, intensive care, and recovery costs.

The coverage includes hospital confinement, surgical procedures, critical care, emergency treatment, and recovery support, alongside life insurance benefits. Customers can select coverage levels based on their needs and budget, with medical riders renewable up to age 80 and life insurance protection extending up to age 100.

Karen Custodia, Chief Executive Officer of BPI AIA, noted that the changing nature of work requires financial protection solutions that adapt to evolving career paths and income streams.

With the country’s freelance and gig economy continuing to expand, BPI AIA aims to encourage more Filipinos to view healthcare and life protection as essential components of financial preparedness, regardless of employment status.
