Globe Telecom has expressed support for the Department of Education’s (DepEd) new policy promoting the responsible use of gadgets in schools, emphasizing that technology should empower learning while protecting children in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world.

Under DepEd Order No. 006, s. 2026, or the Guidelines on Ensuring Safe and Motivating Learning Environment (ESMLE), the use of gadgets is generally regulated during instructional hours but remains allowed for educational activities and emergencies.

Globe said the policy aligns with its advocacy for responsible technology use through stronger online safety measures, digital literacy, parental guidance, and platform accountability. The company believes these safeguards enable students to maximize digital tools for education, creativity, and future-ready skills while minimizing online risks.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, said connectivity and digital learning should go hand in hand with responsible online behavior, especially as artificial intelligence continues to reshape education and everyday life.

Globe highlighted its long-running Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), which has reached more than two million Filipino students since 2016 by promoting digital citizenship, cyber wellness, and responsible online behavior. The company also continues its #MakeITSafePH campaign and Online Safety Glossary to help users recognize cyber threats and develop safer digital habits.

Beyond education initiatives, Globe works with government agencies and industry partners to combat online sexual abuse or exploitation of children (OSAEC) and child sexual abuse and exploitation material (CSAEM), reinforcing its commitment to child online protection.

The company said creating safer digital ecosystems requires collaboration among technology providers, educators, parents, government, and communities to ensure Filipino children can safely benefit from digital learning, innovation, and emerging technologies.
