Mastercard has introduced Mastercard Wallet Pay, a global portfolio of payment solutions designed to improve interoperability between digital wallets across contactless, QR code and online transactions.
The platform aims to help digital wallet providers expand their services without having to build extensive payment connectivity themselves. Mastercard said Wallet Pay can support use cases ranging from everyday purchases and cross-border transfers to card issuing and digital commerce.
Through collaborations with providers including Alipay+, GCash, KakaoPay, TNG eWallet, TrueMoney, Mercado Pago, MTN and TenPay Global, Mastercard Wallet Pay is designed to connect wallet users to hundreds of millions of payment acceptance locations and digital access points worldwide.
Key capabilities include cross-border wallet interoperability, secure card issuing, unified online and in-store payments, and accelerated money movement. Mastercard said its infrastructure can facilitate transfers between cards, wallets and accounts across more than 200 countries and territories and 150 currencies.
The platform also supports the integration of Mastercard credentials into digital wallets. Mastercard said more than 3.7 billion Mastercard credentials can connect to digital wallets, potentially expanding payment access across physical and digital channels.
For Philippine users, the initiative includes GCash through its collaboration with Alipay+ and Mastercard. G-Xchange president and CEO Ren-Ren Reyes said the partnership is intended to expand secure global acceptance and digital payment experiences for GCash users.
Mastercard said Wallet Pay builds on its focus on digital wallet innovation and financial inclusion as digital wallets continue to expand globally.
