(L-R): Danny Chung, General Manager of Alipay+ Global Growth Center, Ant International; Carmelita “Melit” Araneta, General Manager of Philippine Payments Management Inc.; and Atty. Bridget Rose M. Mesina-Romero, Director of the Payments Policy and Development Department, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
The Philippine Payments Management, Inc. (PPMI) and Ant International’s Alipay+ have enabled Alipay+ on QR Ph, connecting the Philippines’ interoperable QR payment network to a global cross-border payments ecosystem.
The integration allows international travelers to use their home e-wallets and banking apps to scan and pay at participating QR Ph merchants nationwide. Merchants, meanwhile, can accept payments through their existing QR Ph codes without requiring separate QR systems.
The development could particularly benefit micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by giving local businesses easier access to international customers and cross-border digital commerce.
The move comes as digital payments continue to expand in the Philippines. According to the BSP’s 2025 Report on E-Payments Measurement, digital payments represented 64.69% of retail transaction volume, while QR Ph transactions increased more than 13-fold in 2025.
Alipay+ currently connects more than 2 billion consumer accounts, over 50 mobile payment providers, 10+ national payment switches, and QR and NFC merchants across more than 220 markets.
The partnership highlights the growing role of payment interoperability and mobile technology in connecting local businesses to the global digital economy.
