Mastercard has announced the availability of Apple Pay for its cardholders in the Philippines, expanding access to secure, contactless, and mobile-first payment experiences across the country.
The launch allows Mastercard credit and debit cardholders to add their eligible cards to Apple Pay and make payments using their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac. Consumers can use the service for in-store purchases, online shopping, and in-app transactions without needing to repeatedly enter card details or billing information.
The move reflects the continued growth of digital payments and mobile wallet adoption in the Philippines, where consumers are increasingly seeking faster, more convenient, and secure payment options.
“The launch of Apple Pay enables secure, seamless, and convenient payment experiences for consumers in the Philippines,” said Jason Crasto, Country Manager of Mastercard in the Philippines. He added that the company remains focused on providing consumers with greater payment choice and enhanced security as digital adoption accelerates.
Apple Pay uses contactless payment technology, allowing users to complete transactions by double-clicking the side button on their iPhone or Apple Watch, authenticating with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, and holding the device near a compatible payment terminal.
Security and privacy remain central to the platform. Instead of storing actual card numbers on devices or Apple servers, Apple Pay assigns a unique Device Account Number that is encrypted and stored within the Secure Element, a dedicated security chip designed to protect payment information. Each transaction is also secured through a one-time dynamic security code.
Apple Pay can be used at grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee shops, retail outlets, and other merchants that accept contactless payments. The service also streamlines online and in-app purchases across Apple devices.
To get started, customers can open the Wallet app on their iPhone, tap the “+” icon, and follow the instructions to add their eligible Mastercard credit or debit card. Existing Mastercard rewards and benefits remain available when purchases are made through Apple Pay.
The rollout further strengthens the Philippines’ digital payments ecosystem, supporting the country’s ongoing transition toward more secure and cashless transactions.
