PLDT and Smart are helping strengthen the cyber resilience of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) through cybersecurity awareness training designed to equip personnel with skills to identify and respond to evolving digital threats.
The PMA Information and Communications Technology Center (ICT) recently conducted an ICT Education and Enhancement Training for the academy’s administrative personnel, focusing on practical cybersecurity practices and responsible digital behavior.
The training highlighted the importance of recognizing social engineering attacks, where cybercriminals manipulate individuals into revealing sensitive information through tactics such as phishing, fake investment schemes, and online scams.
PLDT and Smart cybersecurity experts discussed how attackers exploit trust, fear, and urgency to convince victims to share login credentials, download malicious files, or make unauthorized financial transactions.
According to Lt. Col. Harold G. Ricacho, Director of the PMA ICT Center, cybersecurity goes beyond technology and begins with individuals who understand how to protect their privacy and recognize online risks.
Charm Dimaculangan, Smart Stakeholder Engagement Specialist, leads a cybersecurity workshop on identifying potential scams, helping Philippine Military Academy (PMA) administrative personnel recognize online threats, understand social engineering tactics, and strengthen their digital safety practices through the #BeCyberSmart initiative.
The initiative supports PLDT and Smart’s #BeCyberSmart campaign under the #KonektedforSaferInternet program, which aims to improve public awareness of online threats and promote safer digital practices. Since its launch in 2018, the program has reached more than 140,000 Filipinos through cybersecurity awareness activities.
The cybersecurity training also aligns with the PLDT Group’s broader digital protection efforts, which include blocking billions of cyber threats and malicious site access attempts through its security infrastructure.
By partnering with schools, communities, businesses, and government institutions, PLDT and Smart continue to promote cybersecurity awareness, recognizing informed users as a critical defense against increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
