Telecommunications provider Smart Communications is expanding its cybersecurity awareness efforts by bringing anti-scam education directly to load retailers through its CX Caravan program in Laguna and Cavite.
Recognizing that retailers are frequent targets of fraud due to their involvement in SIM-related transactions, payments, and load purchases, Smart conducted on-ground training sessions focused on common scam tactics. These included OTP phishing, fake proof-of-payment schemes, identity misuse, and other forms of social engineering.
The initiative aims to help retailers identify red flags, follow proper verification procedures, and better protect customer information. Smart said many retailers have limited time to consume online educational content, making face-to-face engagement a more effective way to deliver cybersecurity awareness.
“Madalas kaming target ng scam dahil sa dami ng transaksyon na hinahawakan namin araw-araw. Malaking tulong na dinadala mismo sa amin ang ganitong impormasyon dahil hindi naman kami laging may oras para mag-scroll sa Facebook o magbasa online,” said Nelson, a Smart retailer from Cavite.
In addition to scam prevention training, the CX Caravan provided aftersales support services, allowing retailers to raise concerns and access assistance directly.
The program is part of Smart Cares and supports the PLDT Group’s #BeCyberSmart campaign, which promotes digital safety and cybersecurity awareness across various communities, including teachers, retirees, and healthcare professionals.
