Tech company Garmin has introduced the new Garmin Approach G82, an all-in-one golf launch monitor and GPS handheld designed to help players improve both swing performance and on-course decision-making through advanced data analytics.
The Approach G82 combines built-in radar technology with GPS capabilities, offering golfers detailed swing metrics such as ball speed, club speed, smash factor, and tempo. Garmin also introduced putting metrics to the device, allowing users to track stroke length, tempo, and ball speed to improve consistency on the green.
The launch reflects growing global interest in golf, particularly among younger players. Garmin reported a 76% increase in golfers under 20 and a 53% rise among players aged 20 to 29. According to Garmin’s latest Trends in Golf Data Report, golfers using Garmin launch monitors or simulators improved their scores by an average of 4.4 strokes after six months.
The device also features AI-like performance assistance through its virtual caddie system, which recommends clubs based on swing data, wind conditions, elevation, and hazard locations. Additional features include bag mapping, target practice mode, tempo training, and club speed training.
For on-course use, the Approach G82 supports enhanced PlaysLike distance calculations, automatic shot detection when paired with compatible sensors, and smartphone-connected features such as live wind data and course updates. The handheld also includes magnetic mounting, an IPX7 water resistance rating, and up to 25 hours of battery life in GPS mode.
The Garmin Approach G82 became available in the Philippines starting May 8 through Garmin Philippines with a suggested retail price of PHP 38,290.
